Where were you when the calendar clicked to 2000?

For years before the big event we sang the song by Prince "tonight we're going to party like its 1999." Well, did you?? Despite the worry of major computer problems and the world coming to an end the big party was much the same as every New Years Eve. We spent the night with the family at Salt Lake City's first night. They had events all over the downtown area to participate in. The kids made these really cool butterfly wings they are displaying. I think they were supposed to represent the Y2K bug. (see below) We watched some awesome Polynesian dancing, listened to a local band and spent some time in the church history museum watching the kids dress up in Nativity costumes. The night was followed by a huge, probably very expensive, firework display. It was supposed to be the show of all shows to usher in the new millennium. There was only one major problem.....inversion. Yes, the inversion had taken over like a monster in the sky. So I am sure they were beautiful be we could only catch small glimpses of color as the exploded on the far side of the foggy, crappy mess. We all lived and life went on. Its now over 9 years later and so far so good...none of the predictions have come true. So "tonight lets party like its 1999."

*The Y2K bug was a clicking time bomb for all major computer applications. The computer and system application companies came out with year 2000 compliant operating systems and system software. IT companies around the world spent billions of dollars to go through their entire application source code to look for the Y2K bug and fix it. Almost everybody raced around to make themselves Y2K compliant before the fast approaching deadline. Finally when the big day came, many utilities and other companies switched off their main computers and put the backup computers on work. When the clock ticked Jan 1, 2000, no major problems were reported. Almost every bank worked fine, no major power outages were reported, airplanes still flew and the whole world went on with its normal life.
